Cloud native applications are creating substantial challenges for security and risk professionals.

The growth of microservices in the development process and the shifting landscape of modern cloud environments, along with fundamental architecture diversification, are combining to strain traditional security tools beyond their limits – and their usefulness.

We think a new Gartner report can help answer a number of questions that security and DevOps teams working with cloud native applications might have. Gartner’s analysts highlight an emerging trend consolidating cloud security posture management (CSPM) and cloud workload protection platforms (CWPP) under cloud native application protection and what that might mean for your organization’s security.

The report, Top Security and Risk Management Trends, names Palo Alto Networks as a Sample Vendor in the CWPP market for our Prisma™ Cloud solution. Additionally, we believe the report offers recommendations for leaders looking to improve cloud workload protection, including the need to:

  • Address the requirements for protecting cloud workloads, including server workload protection and container security capabilities
  • Ensure your security provider is fully API-enabled for automation
  • Consider a comprehensive cloud native application protection platform that combines CWPP and CSPM, including capabilities for containers and serverless
